At Tombo Therapy Healing, I believe it is important to have open and honest conversations about the therapeutic process, including fees for services. I know that access to mental health care is impacted by systems of oppression—including financial ones—and am committed to being as clear and affirming as possible when it comes to the cost of therapeutic services at our practice.

As a BIPOC and queer woman-owned business, I aim to provide affirming and inclusive care that is both financially transparent and values-aligned. Whether you’re using insurance, paying out of pocket, or need help with cost, we’re here to support you with navigating the best options for you.

Using Insurance

At this time, Tombo Therapy Healing is only able to accept insurance from clients who are Oregon residents. My practice is in the process of getting credentialed with other insurance panels to increase accessibility to therapy.

I am currently in-network with Providence Health Plan, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, and MODA.

Insurance FAQ

If you have insurance and want to start therapy, I will verify your benefits before your first session.

You may be responsible for a co-pay at the time of service. Please contact your insurer to determine your co-pay and whether you have a yearly deductible that must be met before you may use your benefits. You may also need to confirm if your insurance covers couples therapy.

While I can provide an estimate for your copay, if your plan has a deductible or coinsurance, your final costs may vary. Our practice’s policy is to bill for coinsurance or deductible amounts after your claim processes, since other medical visits you have may impact what you owe.

Client Responsibilities

The best way to prevent surprise balances is to fully understand your insurance benefits and to keep us updated on any changes to your coverage. You are responsible for the following:

  1. Verifying your benefits before starting therapy services.
  2. Informing us promptly of any changes or lapses in private insurance.
  3. Updating us if major life changes occur that may impact your coverage (e.g., marriage, pregnancy, changes in disability status, turning 65, moving, or changing jobs).
How can I submit for out-of-network insurance reimbursement?

For other insurance companies, our practice is considered an out-of-network provider. Some insurers will reimburse a percentage of your out of pocket expenses. It is your responsibility to verify your out-of-network benefits with your insurance provider before starting care.

We can provide you with a Superbill that you can directly submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

If you plan to seek reimbursement, contact your insurance provider and ask the following questions:

  1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health services?
  2. What is my deductible, and has it been met?
  3. What percentage of each therapy session is reimbursed?
  4. How many therapy sessions per year are covered by my plan?
  5. Does my plan cover couples therapy?
Does insurance cover couples therapy?

I cannot guarantee that your insurance plan will cover couples therapy sessions. Insurance only covers sessions when they are medically necessary to treat the diagnosis of one identified family member/client. Sessions cannot be solely focused on relationship growth or communication skills.

I recommend asking your insurance network if they cover Family Therapy, if you are interested in pursuing coverage for relationship therapy.

Questions to ask your insurance provider:

  1. Does my plan cover family therapy?
  2. If yes, how many therapy sessions are covered by my plan?

According to Oregon Law, the definition of family is broad and can include parents, siblings, spouses/partners, caregivers, and other primary relationships by blood, adoption, legal, or social connection.

Do you accept Medicare or OHP?

I am unable to submit claims or provide Superbills to Medicare or OHP.

Will you ever be able to take insurance from Washington?

Yes! Once I am fully licensed in Washington, I will be working on getting credentialed with insurance panels for Washington clients.

Good Faith Estimate/No Surprises Act

Under the No Surprises Act, uninsured, out-of-network, and private pay clients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
